A Raspy-voiced Trudeau Expresses Gratitude To His Supporters

Justin Trudeau delivered a spirited and heartfelt victory speech, emphasizing the power of positive politics. Amid chants of “Justin! Justin! Justin!” from an enthusiastic crowd, Trudeau declared that Canadians had sent a strong message for change, proving that success in politics doesn’t have to rely on negativity.

Quoting Abraham Lincoln, Trudeau said, “You can appeal to the better angels of our nature and win while doing that.” He also expressed gratitude to outgoing Conservative leader Stephen Harper, acknowledging his decade of service and reminding Canadians that political opponents are not enemies but neighbors.

Reflecting on the election outcome, Trudeau credited the victory to listening to the voices of Canadians. “We won because we listened. Together, we can achieve anything with determination and hard work. Tonight, it’s not me who made history—you did,” he remarked.

He pledged to uphold the rights of Indigenous peoples and protect Canadians’ freedom of choice, referencing debates like the niqab issue. Trudeau closed his speech with an optimistic message: “We beat fear with hope. We beat cynicism with hard work. We beat negative politics. In Canada, better is always possible.”
